Questions and answers

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on what is inside. PDFs with photos or scans often shrink by half or more; PDFs that are mostly text are already compact and change little. If the result would not be smaller, you get the original back.

Does it lower the quality?

Only pictures are changed. Text and drawings stay sharp at any zoom. Choose "Best quality" to keep pictures close to the original, or "Smallest file" for screen-only use.

What is left as it is?

Small pictures, drawings and charts (which JPEG would blur), and pictures in CMYK, JPEG 2000 or black-and-white fax formats. Digital signatures become invalid, as with any change to a signed PDF.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Your browser opens and processes the files on your device. They are not uploaded to our server.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

Yes, if you know the password. The tool asks for it, uses it only in your browser, and the new file is saved without a password.
